It’s the rise of the infographics in the social media age. Why are info graphics such an important aspect of social media marketing these days? Well, as an expert marketeer and New York Times best selling author of “Youtility – Why Smart Marketing is about HELP and not HYPE”, Jay Baer, (not to mention a beer drinking, doughnut eating, all around cool guy) just shared with us and hundreds (maybe hundred) of hungry tourism and marketing professionals at the Arizona Governor’s Conference on Tourism – It is because people crave USEFUL information. And if you give it to them, they’ll share it.
But first, What are Infographics?
Wikipedia describes as: Information graphics or infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present complex information quickly and clearly. The process of creating infographics can be referred to as data visualization, information design or information architecture.
Why are infographics so hot? Because they work.
Infographics are a simple and easy ways to digest complex data. In a time where people are on information overload with access to the internet through smartphones, tablets and computers; infographics offer a quick way to devour a ton of data. Infographics are eye catching, engaging and easy to understand. People are visual creatures. It’s true. Most of us need to picture it in our heads or see it with our own eyes and then – ah-ha! Now I get it. But, with emails, text messages, voice mails, reminders, alarms and all the other noise in our daily lives (not to mention crazed children-juiced up on literally juice…plus, angry birds, minions, turtles, and a gazillion of other games and sweets) we need that ah-ha moment to happen quickly and infographics offer this for us.
Created by Nowsourcing, a social-media marketing company, it shows that infographic posts dwarf traditional posts when it comes to sharing on social networks. What better way to show the success of infographics, than with an infographic or two. See below on the state of the infographic and the top infographic topics in recent history.
